Privacy policy
We collect only what a search needs, show your route only to the organizers of that search, never sell your data, and delete routes after the search ends.

Who we are
Skano Grid runs Skano and is responsible for your data. Write to us about privacy at [email protected].
What we collect
Account: your email address and the name you choose. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name and email with us. If you search as a guest, we keep a random account number and no email.
Location during a search: while you search, your position every few seconds, how accurate it is and the time. See "Location and your route".
Searches you create: the title, description, photos, last-seen place, search area, and the contact details and reward you choose to show.
Reports: "I found it" and the flags you send, with their location and any photo you add.
Imported routes: routes the organizers add from a file (a drone's flight, a route recorded with another app). Only the organizers see them.
Alerts: if you turn alerts on, your browser's push subscription and the email address for alerts.
Technical data: our providers' servers log IP addresses and device details, for security and to fix problems.
Why we use it
To run searches: assign areas, guide volunteers, show organizers what was covered and where help is needed, and send the alerts you asked for.
To keep Skano safe: prevent abuse, fake searches and spam, and fix problems.
We don't sell your data, don't use it for advertising and don't build profiles about you.
Who sees what
Other volunteers never see you or your route.
The organizers of a search (whoever created it and the co-organizers they add) see your name, your position while you search, your route, the areas you covered and your reports. They can download routes to share with the police or rescue teams.
Public searches: the title, description, photo, area and progress appear on a public page that anyone can open. Volunteers' details never appear there.
Service providers process data for us: Supabase (database, sign-in and files), Vercel (website hosting), our email provider (sign-in codes and alerts) and the map provider, which receives the map tiles your device loads and your IP address. Google is involved only if you sign in with Google.
We disclose data to authorities when the law requires it, or to protect someone's life.
How long we keep it
Route points: deleted automatically 30 days after the search ends, and in any case 90 days after they were recorded. Routes the organizers import are deleted 30 days after the search ends.
Searches, their photos and reports: until the organizer's account is deleted, or earlier on request to [email protected]. Ended searches leave the public list after 30 days.
Your account: until you delete it. Deleting it (Account → Your data) removes your account, routes, reports and memberships at once. A search you run passes to its co-organizer, or is deleted if it has none.
Backups at our hosting provider may keep copies for up to 30 days.
Your rights
In Account → Your data you can download everything we hold about you and delete your account. You can change your name at any time. For anything else, such as correcting data, write to [email protected].
You're not required by law to give us any data. Without your location, though, Skano can't guide you or record the ground you searched. You can turn location off at any time in your browser or phone settings.
You may also complain to the Privacy Protection Authority.
Security
Data travels encrypted. Access rules in the database let each person see only what their role in a search allows. No system is perfectly secure: if a breach affects you, we will tell you as the law requires.
Where it is stored
Our providers may store data outside Israel, for example in the European Union or the United States, under appropriate protections.
Changes
We update this page when our practices change, and we'll tell you in the app about important changes.
