Location and your route
Skano uses your location only while you take part in a search: to guide you to your area and record the ground you covered.
Last updated: 19 October 2026
When
Only after you join a search and allow location, and only while you search. On the web, while the search page is open. Recording stops when you leave the search: Skano does not follow you outside a search.
To show searches near you on the home screen, your position is rounded to about 1 km before it leaves your phone, and it isn't stored.
What
Your position every few seconds, how accurate it is, and the time.
Who sees it
The organizers of that search: your current position and your route. Other volunteers never see you or your route, and routes never appear on public pages.
What it is for
To guide you to your area, mark the ground you covered, show the organizers which areas were searched well and which need another pass, and, when you tap "I found it", send them your exact location.
How long
Route points are deleted 30 days after the search ends, and in any case 90 days after they were recorded. Deleting your account deletes them at once.
How to stop
Leave the search, or turn location off for Skano in your browser or phone settings. You can still read the search, but your areas won't be guided or recorded.
